The William Carlos Williams Society does not handle requests for permission to quote from the work of William Carlos Williams.
Permissions for poems published in New Directions volumes by Williams may be requested on the New Directions Permissions Portal.
The rights to Williams’s unpublished writings and other materials are held by Daphne Williams Fox, Williams’s granddaughter and the executor of the William Carlos Williams Estate. The estate is represented by the Jean V. Naggar Literary Agency (JVNLA), and formal permission requests (describing the quoted material, the word count, and/or lines being used) may be sent to the Jean V. Naggar Literary Agency (JVNLA),
For questions about copyright see Copyright Law of the United States (Title 17). The Center for Media and Social Impact (CMSI) web site also has a useful code of best practices in fair use for poetry.
